My first memories of food appreciation involve family first and foremost.
As a child, I would wake up early so that I could eat breakfast with Dad before he left for work. After school, I would sit at the counter watching Mum bake. And when the rest of the family came to visit, we would sit at the dining room table, eating and conversing. Being the youngest, I would listen to the adult conversation while angling for another serving of chips.
Food was shared and memories were created. And if something was really good, Dad would say, "That's a bit moreish".
Unfortunately, these days Dad and I can't have all the delicious treats we once could. Recently, we discovered that we are both gluten intolerant. After changing our diets, our health has improved dramatically, but we both experience severe reactions when gluten does sneak into our food. I am also on a low-FODMAP diet to manage my residual digestive symptoms.
My husband, Ross, also has coeliac disease and we are on a mission to enjoy delicious gluten-free food together. We live in Wellington and spend our days exploring the city and traveling further afield - always eating, drinking and cooking together.
This blog is a place for me to capture our food experiences and point others in the direction of gluten-free goodness. Ross doesn't mind me taking countless photos in restaurants, so long as I make him gluten-free custard squares once in a while.
My mission is to make memories. One morsel at a time.
